September issue salutes fashion doll’s 60th anniversary with special shoot.
The September issue of British Vogue is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Barbie with a special photographic shoot.
For the partnership celebrating the diverse range of dolls, British Vogue invited six leading young designers to dress the enduring style icon in their signature style.
Matty Bovan, Mowalola, Richard Malone, Art School, Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY and Supriya Lele have dressed the new line of Barbie Fashionista dolls – with varying looks and body types – in miniature interpretations of key looks from their collections, each explaining to Olivia Singer within the issue, what key characteristics and design details they set out to achieve.
Styled by Poppy Kain, each designer was shot by Stas Komarovski alongside their respective Barbie.
Adwoa Aboah and Yara Shahidi – who appear on the cover and within HRH The Duchess of Sussex’s guest edited British Vogue September issue – were also created as Barbie dolls earlier this year as part of the Barbie Shero programme, honouring them as inspirational women.
Previous Barbie Shero recipients have included model Ashley Graham, principal dancer Misty Copeland and Instagram’s Eva Chen among others.
