Three new Star Wars films and four Avatar sequels unveiled as part of new schedule.
Three new Star Wars movies and four sequels to Avatar have been confirmed as a key part of Disney’s new schedule.
Following the release of The Rise of Skywalker this December – which sees the conclusion of the nine-film saga – a new Star Wars movie will debut on December 16, 2022.
A further two will follow in December 2024 and 2026.
However, Disney didn’t confirm in the new films would be part of a trilogy or would be spin offs from the original saga.
Meanwhile, the release date of Avatar 2 – which Disney acquired when it completed the $71 billion purchase for the majority of 21st Century Fox’s assets earlier this year – has been pushed back to December 17, 2021.
The Avatar franchise will alternate with Star Wars, releasing films in December 2023, 2025 and 2027.
In addition, Disney confirmed that there will be two Marvel films next year – releasing on May 1 and November 6. A further three films will follow from the studio in 2021 and three in 2022.
