Historic Royal Palaces adds new fashion & jewellery

New collections inspired by The Great Pagoda, opening in Kew Gardens in 2018.

Historic Royal Palaces has revealed a number of new jewellery and fashion lines, inspired by The Great Pagoda at Kew Gardens.

Opening next year, The Great Pagoda was built in 1762 and is currently being restored to its former glory. It reflects the popular fascination at that time with oriental culture. This was also echoed across the interiors of the palaces by the display of blue and white porcelain vases, bowls and ornaments often adorned with birds, foliage, plants, flowers and Chinese motifs – a European interpretation of Chinese and East Asian artistic traditions.

Hobbs will celebrate its tenth collection for Historic Royal Palaces in spring 2018 with a range of elegantly tailored shift dresses, floral blouses and sumptuous jacquards inspired by The Great Pagoda and decorative blue and white Chinese porcelain collected by Queen Mary II and Queen Anne, which can still be seen inside the palaces today.

Items will be sold in key Hobbs stores across the UK and in the US from March 2018.

Meanwhile, jewellery specialist Clogau has taken inspiration from The Great Pagoda for its summer collection.

The company has interpreted the iconic structure across a silver pendant, drop earrings, ring and bracelet and will include rose gold and white topaz within the designs. Items will be sold at www.historicroyalpalace.com and via Clogau’s distribution channels.

Emma Saunders, head of retail business development at Historic Royal Palaces, said: “Historic Royal Palaces are finding further inspiration for their licensing programme with the inclusion of The Great Pagoda at Kew.

“With East Asian influences prominent across trends for 2018 we feel the palaces offer a great opportunity and scope for new product development with both existing and new licensing partnerships.”
