A series of hints from fashion retailer, Topshop has reignited excitement that the brand could be making a full return to online and potentially bricks and mortar retail.
Topshop shared a video on Instagram featuring London Mayor Sadiq Khan calling for the brand to make a comeback to Oxford Street, while he also reminisced on his own Topshop shopping memories, reported Retail Gazette.
The clip has gained significant attention on social media, with fans leaving comments for the brand to return to the high street.
Further speculation has been raised by the appearance of a holding page at topshop.com, stating ‘coming soon’, while the brand has also been active on the fashion scene, acting as the official sponsor for this year’s Universal Music Brit Awards after party, collaborating with conceptual artist Russ Jones.
The Oxford Circus store was Topman’s flagship outlet, closing in 2021. The Topshop brand was acquired by ASOS (along with a number of other leading brands from Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia empire) and was relaunched online as part of the ASOS offer.
In 2024, ASOS sold a 75% stake in the fashion brand, creating a joint venture with Heartland, an investment company owned by Bestseller. ASOS retained certain design and distribution rights for the brands, in exchange for a royalty fee, allowing it to continue selling the brands.
During this time, the Topshop and Topman brands have continued to be active in the licensing space with highlights including a successful collaboration with Ashmolean Museum among others.
