News extra: More licensing news from this week

Including Magic Light Pictures welcoming a raft of new licensees on board for The Gruffalo.

Source rounds up more news from the licensing industry across the globe from the week.

Magic Light Pictures has revealed a raft of new licensees for The Gruffalo as the development of the licensing programme continues. Visage (crafted printed fabrics), MBI (gifting and collectables including gift packaging for the recent commemorative 20th anniversary coins from The Royal Mint and stamps from Royal Mail), Robert Fredrick (stationery, gifts and games), Playpress (a buildable play-set) and Snappyjack (playground signage) are all on board.

The Royal Mint has announced that Queen will be celebrated with the launch of a commemorative coin collection, making it the first time that a British band has been celebrated on UK coinage. The design is the first in The Royal Mint’s new Music Legends collection. The coin commemorates all four members of Queen, done through the portrayal of each member’s instrument with the Bechstein grand piano – which Freddie Mercury played for Bohemian Rhapsody – featuring at the top of the coin. The group’s logo is placed at the centre of the design and is underscored by the singer’s signature mic stick. Brian May’s ‘Red Special’ guitar also features alongside John Deacon’s Fender Precision Bass, while Roger Taylor’s Ludwig bass drum is decorated with the Queen crest, as it appeared in the band’s early days.
