NHM launches Wildlife Photographer of the Year licensing push

Museum’s licensing team is keen to explore categories including stationery, gifting, homewares and textiles.

Natural History Museum is launching a licensing programme for Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

One of the museum’s most successful, long-running exhibitions, Wildlife Photographer of the Year is an international showcase of the best in nature photography.

Widely acknowledged as the most prestigious wildlife photography contest in the world, the purpose of the competition is to invite ever more people, participants and partners to experience and use the uniquely emotive power of photography to move hearts and minds, ultimately creating advocates for the planet.

The first competition was held back in 1964 with around 600 entries. In comparison, this year’s competition received over 49,000 entries.

Each year, the exhibition tours both the UK and internationally and receives over a million visitors from across the world.

The Museum’s licensing team is keen to explore complementary product categories for the brand including stationery, gifting, homewares and textiles.

With a back catalogue of strong imagery – all provided by the photographers with which the competition collaborates – each supplied with detailed contextual editorial, the team is confident the competition will lend itself perfectly to a licensed programme.

“We are very excited to be able to explore the potential of this fantastic brand and we already have strong interest in particular product categories with some exciting upcoming meetings happening at the Festival of Licensing,” commented Maxine Lister, head of licensing at Natural History Museum.
