The Peter Rabbit movie has soared to the top of the UK box office, enjoying a strong opening weekend and delighting the teams at Sony Pictures and Penguin Ventures.
The film – which stars James Corden as Peter – took £7.24 million at the UK box office over three days.
According to Sony, the opening was bigger than those for the first Paddington movie, The BFG and Zootropolis.
The US box office, meanwhile, currently stands at $87.95 million.
Susan Bolsover, licensing and consumer products director at Penguin Ventures, told The Source: “We are delighted with the UK opening weekend box office figures for the Peter Rabbit movie.
“Peter Rabbit is a classic and much-loved character brand with unrivalled global awareness and this, together with Sony’s impressive PR and promotional campaign ensuring huge visibility for the movie, has secured a fantastic result.”
Susan continued: “We are excited to see how this translates at retail for our Peter Rabbit movie licensees and we anticipate all categories performing exceptionally well based on these early box office indicators and we couldn’t be more thrilled for everyone involved.”
