Licensed names among Toy Industry Awards winners

L.O.L Surprise, LEGO Harry Potter, Roblox, PAW Patrol all victorious.

L.O.L. Surprise, PAW Patrol and LEGO Harry Potter were among the licensed names taking home from trophies from the Toy Industry Awards last night.

Organised by the BTHA and the Toy Retailers Association, the awards took place following the first day of Toy Fair (January 22) in Olympia’s Apex Room.

It was a good night for MGA Entertainment – the company picked up the prestigious Toy of the Year for L.O.L. Surprise, while L.O.L. Under Wraps won the Collectable Range of the Year.

Meanwhile, Barbie Care Clinic from Mattel was named Fashion Doll of the Year; LEGO Harry Potter picked up Licensed Product Range of the Year; Jazwares’ Roblox was Action Figure of the Year; and Spin Master’s PAW Patrol won Preschool Range of the Year.

Character Options picked up the accolade for Supplier of the Year.

Among the retailer awards, The Entertainer was named Overall Toy Retailer of the Year as well as Specialist Multiple (30 stores or more).

Sainsbury’s Argos and Shop Direct picked up General Multiple Toy Retailer and Online Toy Retailer respectively.

Alan Simpson, chairman of the TRA, commented: “Our industry makes amazing and innovative toys that inspire joy and development in children.

“It was a difficult process to choose the few that could be shortlisted for a coveted award, and more difficult still to pick the winners from a competitive field of great products.”
