Start Licensing adds Bouffants & Broken Hearts

Agency will represent brand created by Philadelphia designer across Europe.

Start Licensing is to represent the original and quirky Bouffants & Broken Hearts brand across Europe, after striking a deal with US-based agency Jewel Branding and Licensing.

The property is the creation of Kendra Dandy, an illustrator and surface designer from Philadelphia. Her prints have notably featured in collaborations with companies including Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters and Bobbi Brown among others.

Kendra’s patterns are featured on products including decorative pillows, tech accessories, beauty packaging, stationery and fashion accessories, with new categories also in development.

Some key product launches have included luxury Italian fashion label, Lazzari, which partnered with Kendra on a collection of shirts and dresses; crafting products and designs from Trimcraft for launch in 2017; Robert Kaufman with a fashion fabric collection; Fab and DENY Designs with home décor, accessories and apparel; plus Barnes & Noble launching playing cards through Andrew Blaine.

Start Licensing’s md, Ian Downes, said: “I first saw Kendra’s designs at Licensing Expo and was very impressed by them. It struck me that they would appeal to the European market. They are fresh, original and contemporary.

“I can see retailers being interested in this collection as it provides them with an opportunity to develop exclusive ranges; however, I think brands in categories such as gifting , apparel and accessories will find this appealing. We are looking forward to working with Kendra and the Jewel Branding team on this exciting design collection.”

Julie Newman from Jewel Branding and Licensing added: “Retailers and consumers alike cannot get enough of Kendra Dandy’s colourful and quirky designs.”
