The Licensing Awards 2017: The Retail winners

Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Primark and Matalan all crowned in Retail category.

Four major retail names walked away victorious in Tuesday night’s Licensing Awards’ retailer award categories.

It was a spectacular night for Tesco – with the team walking away with a hat trick of accolades.

The retailer picked up Best Retailer of Kids’ Licensed Products (5-16) (sponsored by Universal Brand Development), Best Licensed Retail Execution for its Disney Princess Dream Big activity (sponsored by Centum Books) and the Top Retailer award (sponsored by Mattel).

Tesco’s licensing manager Anita Serradimigni told The Source: “We are really happy. The team work really hard and it’s really great to have that rewarded.”

Disney’s commercial director, Claire Terry, was delighted at the retail execution win, commenting: “From Disney’s point of view, we are delighted to continue to work with Tesco on some groundbreaking retail executions.”

Sainsbury’s was victorious in the Best Preschool Retailer of Licensed Products (sponsored by eOne). The award was collected by Sainsbury’s head of buying, John Carolan and junior buyer Lucy Foster.

John told The Source: “The is testament to the hard work put in by all of the teams – licensing, buying, merchandising. It’s great to be recognised by the industry; it means so much to all of us.”

The Primark team was awarded the Best Retailer of Adult Licensed Products (sponsored by WBCP), with Sarah Jackson, Primark’s director of buying and the team collecting the accolade.

She commented: “This is amazing; I’m really pleased for all the teams involved. Outstanding teams and outstanding delivery.”

Finally, the Radar Award (sponsored by DHX Brands) was collected by Matalan, with a clearly delighted Kate Callender, senior buyer and licensing coordinator, Denille Halsall-Rooney, assistant buyer for Disney, and Amy Jones, trainee assistant buyer, collecting the accolade.

Kate commented: “We are ecstatic. This represents everything we have done as a team. It’s outstanding; we’re so happy. It’s going to be a night of celebration.”
