The Licensing Awards 2018: The Retail winners

Tesco, Primark, HMV, Selfridges and Marks & Spencer all crowned.

Five major retail names walked away victorious in Tuesday night’s Licensing Awards’ retailer award categories.

It was another great night for Tesco, with the team winning Best Retailer of Preschool Licensed Products (sponsored by eOne) and the Top Retailer Award (sponsored by Mattel).

Pippa Woods, licensing manager at Tesco, told Source: “It’s been an amazing year for Tesco and this is testament to the work that the whole team has put in. We’re so impressed by the double! It’s been a year that has seen change in the team so it’s nice to be recognised by the industry; very humbling.”

Primark was presented with the Best Retailer of Kids’ Licensed Products (5-16) award (sponsored by NBC Universal).

Sarah Jackson, director of buying, commented: “This is amazing and great to see. I’m super excited and pleased as it is for all the teams at Primark.”

A victorious HMV took to the stage to collect the Best Retailer of Adult Licensed Products accolade (sponsored by Warner Bros. Consumer Products).

Gary Williamson, books, clothing and merchandise manager, said: “We worked so hard on our licensed offer so I’m delighted.”

The Radar Award (sponsored by DHX Media) – for retailers who have upped their licensing activities in the last year – was awarded to Selfridges.

Chloe Donnelly, creative manager at the retailer, said: “I’m thrilled and very happy. This was so unexpected.”

Finally, the Best Licensed Retail Execution was awarded to a clearly thrilled Marks & Spencer for its work with Paddington and The Copyrights Group.

Laura Barton, assistant buyer at M&S, said: “We’re really so pleased, especially as the Paddington campaign received such a great reaction.”
