The Muppets steal best Christmas TV ad crown

Warburtons ‘The Giant Crumpet Show’ TV spot is rated number one by consumers.

The Muppets return to prime time TV in the Warburtons ‘The Giant Crumpet Show’ ad has been named the best Christmas advert of 2015.

Brand research company Millward Brown asked consumers to rate this year’s crop of ads, with respondents scoring the 18 most popular festive ads across 12 factors that drive sales and build brand loyalty, including enjoyment, relevance and usefulness.

The Warburtons/Muppets spot was named the most effective, gleaning an engagement score of 7.2, compared to the average of 4.5.

The ad was also found to be a persuasive sales driver, scoring 3.5 compared to an average of 2.9.

Cadbury’s ‘Free the Joy’ was the second most successful advert behind Warburtons, while Argos was the year’s biggest improver with its ‘Just Can’t Wait’ slot – it ranked higher than last year’s ad across all categories.

Perhaps surprisingly, both the John Lewis and Sainsbury’s 2015 Christmas ads didn’t manage to match the success both enjoyed in 2014.
