Gameloft marks 10 years of Minion Rush success

The Minions are packing their bags and going on the road in celebration of 10 years of the hit mobile game Minion Rush, which is inspired by Illumination and Universal Pictures’ Despicable Me, the most successful animated film franchise in history.

Since Gameloft launched it a decade ago, Minion Rush has become one of the most popular and widely downloaded mobile games of all time, with more than one billion downloads across iOS, Android and other supporting devices. It was also the first mobile game based on a film property to reach the one billion downloads milestone.

The Minion Rush World Tour will be making in-game stops to celebrate top players around the globe, with each month focused on a specific country and filled with digital activities designed around the game’s 10-year anniversary.

Activities will include community contests, themed in-game content and user generated content among others.

“Since its launch 10 years ago, Minion Rush has taken the world by storm thanks to its compelling runner gameplay and the signature subversive humor of the Minions,” commented Stanislav Sadkeyev, game manager at Gameloft. “We have an entire year’s worth of incredible content for our most dedicated players and communities as well as those new to Minion Rush and the fact that we’re also celebrating on a global scale only adds to the excitement.”

Jim Molinets, svp of production at Universal Games and Digital Platforms, continued: “Minion Rush’s success is a reflection of our incredible player community who continue to embrace the fun and accessible gameplay and provide valuable input, helping shape what the game has become over the last decade.

“We look forward to celebrating this significant milestone with our fans all year long and delivering fresh new content and updates.”

The Minions will be celebrating in-game in the following countries: China, France, Japan, Brazil, the UK, US, Indonesia, Germany, Mexico and Italy, as well as having a tenth anniversary global party.
