The Powerpuff Girls inspire fashion creativity with LCF

London College of Fashion collaboration hits the high notes at Somerset House.

Cartoon Network is celebrating a successful collaboration with the London College of Fashion, which saw the future generation of fashion designers inspired by The Powerpuff Girls to create statement outfits.

The outfits – which were created by final year students – were showcased at a special event on Friday February 15 (the first day of London Fashion Week) held at London’s Somerset House.

15 groups made up of three to three final year undergraduates were selected from the college’s course to create a never before seen signature couture item that embodies female empowerment, while capturing the key trends and elements of the AW2019 season.

First, second and third place winners were chosen by a judging panel including Leila Loumi, international licensing director, softlines, health and beauty at Cartoon Network Enterprises.

They were as follows:

1st place: Cara Edden and Hana Hussein (designs pictured above left)
2nd place: Laura Ubeda, Angelo La Barbera, Sofia Marino and Olivia Rubens (pictured above right)
3rd place: In (Tony) Lee, Faye Arguelles, Polina Gorkovenko and Thanakhom Sittiarttakorn (pictured below)

“We were very pleased with the event and the students were fantastic to work with; I was amazed by the creativity that The Powerpuff Girls unlock,” Graham Saltmarsh, director licensing Northern Europe at Cartoon Network, commented.

Clare Tristram, head of strategic partnerships at the London College of Fashion, told The Source that the project was an amazing opportunity for the students.

“This project has been an amazing opportunity for LCF students to not only work closely with Cartoon Network, who have mentored them through the process, but also to see their garments go into production,” she said. “Cartoon Network wanted to work with the next generation of fashion talent and I think the pieces that were created illustrate what amazing talent we have here at London College of Fashion.”
