IG Design Group looking for further licensing gains

Key signings in past year include Harry Potter, Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4.

Licensing is continuing to be a growing area for IG Design Group, according to ceo Paul Fineman.

In the first half of the year (six months ending September 30, 2019), the company saw its UK business boosted with the extension of its licensing portfolio, securing new agreements for brands including Harry Potter, Peppa Pig, Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2.

Notably, Paul – speaking to sister publication, PG Buzz – said that last year licensed merchandise represented 13% of turnover and this year by the end of its financial year that percentage will be up to 14%-15%.

“And I can see it growing further,” Paul added.

The company has also recently signed a greeting cards licence for emoji, with products due out soon.

Revenues in the UK business stood at £58.3m for the first half which was slightly behind the prior year, reflecting the timing of customer shipments in the current year (which were being managed by customers in preparation for an end of October Brexit).

Second half sales are forecast to come back in line with the company’s expectations for the full year.

Overall, IG Design Group reported revenue up 21% to £248.4 million (H1 2019: £205.2 million).
