Van Gogh Museum and Borderleap bring art to Apple Arcade

Online games developer BorderLeap has teamed up with the Van Gogh Museum on the launch of a new puzzle game on Apple Arcade.

The game – called Illustrated – was released on 13 January and quickly climbed to the top of the Apple Arcade chart.

Illustrated offers players a ‘unique and relaxing’ puzzle experience as they uncover Van Gogh’s famous paintings and learn about the stories behind them. The game features two initial galleries – Van Gogh’s Early Years and Van Gogh in Paris – and showcases a range of the artist’s works, including The Potato Eaters.

The Early Year gallery explores Van Gogh’s first works and chronicles his growth as a young artist. Meanwhile, the Paris gallery delves into his colourful and expressive works as he developed his signature style.

Two additional galleries are launching this year, Van Gogh in Arles and Van Gogh’s Latter Years, to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Van Gogh Museum in 1973.

The game is exclusively available on Apple Arcade across all devices including iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.

“This fantastic collaboration with BorderLeap and the Van Gogh Museum aligns with our objective of working with licensees to find new ways to engage with Van Gogh’s art and legacy,” commented Chris Taday, director and co-founder of Licensing Link Europe, which represents Van Gogh Museum in the UK and Ireland. “We are incredibly pleased with the game.”
