Portmeirion acquires Wax Lyrical

Candle maker is snapped up for £17.5 million.

Portmeirion Group has acquired Lighthouse Holdings, the owner of the Wax Lyrical candle brand, for £17.5 million.

Wax Lyrical sells scented candles and reed diffusers to shops in the UK and over 40 countries worldwide.

Its Fired Earth collection was a winner at the Gift of the Year Awards 2016, while it also has Jelly Belly and RHS licences.

Portmeirion said that the brand was a strong strategic fit with the company, thanks to its Made in Britain pedigree. It will now use its customer base and websites to help grow the Wax Lyrical business further.

Lawrence Bryan, chief executive, said: “We are proud to acquire a group delivering world class Made in Britain home fragrances.

“Together with our existing strong brands of Portmeirion, Spode, Royal Worcester and Pimpernel, these new brands will drive our business forward and offer significant opportunities for growth.”
