Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials heading to BBC1

New drama series based on fantasy novel trilogy heading to TV screens.

Best selling fantasy novel trilogy, His Dark Materials, is to be turned into a new drama series on BBC One.

Written by Philip Pullman, the trilogy consists of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass.

His Dark Materials has been published in more than 40 languages and has sold worldwide close to 17.5 million copies.

It has also graced the stage at the National Theatre, while New Line released a film of The Golden Compass in 2006, starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig and Dakota Blue.

The TV series will be produced for BBC One by Bad Wolf and New Line Cinema.

Philip Pullman commented: “It’s been a constant source of pleasure to me to see this story adapted to different forms and presented in different media.

“It’s been a radio play, a stage play, a film, an audiobook, a graphic novel – and now comes this version for television. I’m delighted at the prospect of a television version of His Dark Materials.”
