Recent fine art exhibition marking 25th anniversary of Sonic makes it into record books.
SEGA’s recent fine art exhibition which took place as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for Sonic the Hedgehog has scored a Guinness World Record.
It has been recognised as the ‘largest fine art exhibition dedicated to one video game character’, further highlighting the popularity of Sonic and underlining what has been a strong year for the brand.
Nine artists from around the world produced a total of 25 pieces of fine art, including sculptures, metal-work and paintings inspired by their love of Sonic the Hedgehog, and how the character has been an influence on their lives.
The exhibition ran at Castle Fine Art Gallery on South Molton Street, London until December 4. Following this the pieces were distributed to Castle Fine Art Galleries throughout the UK. There are still pieces available to buy if you’re an art lover or a Sonic aficionado.
Stephen Daultrey, editor of the Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition, commented: “Seeing Sonic permeate the world of fine art highlights the exciting manner in which gaming culture continues to evolve. Guinness World Records is very proud to recognise that.”
SEGA is now eyeing further records as it moves into 2017, saying it is set to be a ‘landmark’ year for Sonic.
