Third Snowdogs trail set to be most successful yet

New merchandise range and Trail App accompany Tails in Wales.

This weekend saw the launch of the third Snowdogs trail, with Penguin Random House once again teaming up with Wild in Art for Snowdogs: Tails in Wales.

Tails in Wales is the biggest public art trail to ever take place in Wales and follows on from the success of Snowdogs by the Sea, which scooped Best Event in the City 2016 at the Brighton and Hove Business Awards.

The new Snowdogs trail has launched in Cardiff in support of children’s hospice charity Tŷ Hafan. More than 40 1.5m tall sculptures have been placed at South Wales’ most iconic locations to form a ten-week trail.

Each has been individually designed and named by an artist before being sponsored by a local business to raise much needed funds for Tŷ Hafan.

As well as the larger Snowdogs, 57 smaller pups will be included on the trail as a result of an outreach initiative involving children and young people. Nurseries, schools and youth groups (including the Girl Guides who have launched their own Snowdogs challenge badge) have been provided with educational materials which explain the vital work that Ty Hafan carries out in South Wales, as well as miniature ‘blank’ Snowdog to decorate.

In addition, Wild in Art has developed a special app to support the trails, allowing users to find and locate the Snowdog sculptures on a map or search for them by name, location or artist.

Merchandise will be also available from the Snowdogs Art Trails shop with brand new Snowdog figurines from this year to be released to join the existing collectables. New for 2017 are Snowdog Christmas tree ornaments created exclusively for the art trails and available later in the year. While the trail merchandise will predominantly sell online, a limited supply of souvenirs will be available from Ty Hafan shops from October.

Charlie Langhorne, director of Wild in Art, said: “We’re thrilled that our first Snowdog Art Trail in Wales has transformed its capital city into an open-air gallery.

“We hope our award-winning formula inspires people of all ages to get out and about to discover the magical stories behind the Snowdogs and that they raise lots of smiles, as well as lots of funds for Tŷ Hafan.”

Susan Bolsover, head of licensing and consumer products for Penguin Random House, added: “Snowdogs by the Sea was the culmination of months of hard work, commitment and passion shown by many individuals and partners and we are thrilled for the recognition that this award offers.

“The trail has had an overwhelmingly positive affect on families and businesses in Brighton and of course for The Martlets Hospice who were able to secure much needed funds to ensure they can continue their amazing work. We are incredibly proud to have been a part of it.”
