First all-female Doctor Who book launches

Penguin Random House Children’s to publish title on March 8, 2018.

The BBC Children’s Books imprint of Penguin Random House Children’s is to launch the first ever all-female authored Doctor Who collection in the New Year.

The Day She Saved the Doctor is a collection of four stories starring four of the Doctor’s best-loved companions, written by Susan Calman, Jenny Colgan, Dorothy Koomson and Jacqueline Rayner.

Recognising the Doctor’s female friends from across the show’s history, and in celebration of female talent in science fiction, the collection will publish on International Women’s Day, which is March 8, 2018.

Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor is due to regenerate in the upcoming Christmas special, revealing Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor.

In The Day She Saved the Doctor, the stories feature fan favourite companions Clara, Rose, Bill and Sarah Jane respectively, as they explore time and space, get into trouble, fight enemies with the Doctor and – more often than not – step in to save his life.

Penguin Random House Children’s publisher, Ruth Knowles, commented: “At this momentous time in Doctor Who’s history, with millions excitedly awaiting Jodie Whittaker’s arrival in the TARDIS, we are thrilled to be publishing these four Doctor Who stories by such talented female authors.

“Whether they’ve been watching Doctor Who for years or are tuning in for the first time in 2018, we’re confident that readers everywhere will be delighted by these tales.”
