Eden Project picks up Flower Show prize

Kitchen garden collaboration with Borough Market scoops silver-gilt medal.

An abundant kitchen garden designed by a team from the Eden Project won a silver-gilt medal at last week’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

The garden was a collaboration between renowned London food market, Borough Market, Franchi Seeds of Italy and Eden.

The garden included plants grown from a range of seeds developed by Franchi for the Eden Project. It was designed by a team of Eden horticulturalists, led by multi-award winning designers Emma Gunn and Paul Stone.

It was designed to replicate a traditional market stall, but with all of the plants, herbs and flowers planted, taking visitors on a journey from seed to plate.

The aim of the three partners was to inspire and educate visitors to Hampton Court, highlighting the importance of seasonality, diversity and provenance of the fruit and vegetables that we eat. The display showcased the range of fresh produce that can be grown from seed at home.

Eden’s director of life sciences, Dr Mike Maunder, said: “Put three extraordinary groups together and magic happens. We are delighted that the RHS judges recognised our collective commitment to good food and our enthusiasm in sharing that bounty.”
