Hey Duggee among winners at BAFTA Children’s Awards

Preschool hit among winners, alongside SpongeBob Squarepants, Paddington 2.

The winners of this year’s BAFTA Children’s Awards have been revealed, with Hey Duggee walking away with a handful of accolades.

The show once again picked up the award for Preschool Animation, while Grant Orchard also won in the Director category and Hey Duggee: The Counting Badge won in the Digital category.

“It’s incredible to have won three BAFTAs for Hey Duggee this year,” said Henrietta Hurford Jones, executive producer of Hey Duggee for BBC Studios. “Hey Duggee is a much loved show which is enjoyed by children and parents across the world, and it’s fantastic to see that recognised by BAFTA.

“Grant is exceptionally talented, and it’s with his creativity and inspiration that Hey Duggee continues to be such a huge success.”

Sue Goffe, head of production at Studio AKA, added: “It’s wonderful to see Hey Duggee win three awards at the Children’s BAFTAs this year, and particularly for Grant to have been recognised in the Best Director category. We’re hugely proud of the work, and thank and congratulate everyone involved in making the show.”

Meanwhile, Paddington 2 was awarded the Feature Film accolade, while Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle from Ubisoft was the victor in the Game category.

International Animation went to SpongeBob Squarepants, while Justin Fletcher picked up the Presenter award for Something Special.

CBeebies was also named the winner in the Channel category.

Clive Juster, producer of children’s TV shows such as King Rollo, Spot the Dog and Maisy Mouse, and co-founder of King Rollo Films, was honoured with the Special Award – recognising his outstanding contribution to children’s TV.

Having worked in children’s TV for 50 years, Clive has produced over 20 children’s TV series as well as many shorts and TV specials.
