Love Monster publishing brand heads to TV

Boat Rocker, BBC and UYoung team to co-produce new preschool animation.

A new preschool animated series based on publishing property Love Monster is to hit CBeebies after Boat Rocker Studios, BBC and UYoung secured a co-production deal.

The collaboration will see 54 x seven-minute 2D episodes premiere on CBeebies and major Chinese broadcasters and digital platforms.

The Love Monster series is written by Rachel Bright and published by HarperCollins Children’s Books. The titles feature the adventures of the only monster in town as he navigates the challenges involved in being a bit funny looking in a world of cute fluffy things.

The TV adaptation will be ‘full of heart’ and big life learnings for preschoolers.

Boat Rocker Rights will also manage the distribution of the series and the global brand and licensing – excluding China and South East Asia which will be managed by UYoung.

“This is the first collaboration to come through our new offices in Hong Kong and London and forms part of our strategy to grow our footprint in Asia, in addition to solidifying our existing partnership with the BBC,” explained Jon Rutherford, md of Boat Rocker Studios. “We’re thrilled to unveil Love Monster to the global marketplace.”

Cheryl Taylor, head of content at BBC Children’s, added: “Rachel’s warm and witty books will translate perfectly into a series for our youngest viewers. CBeebies celebrates inclusive behaviour and Love Monster embodies a sense of collaboration.”

Rachel Bright continued: “I’m thrilled that Love Monster is leaping from the page to the screen and delighted that it will be the result of a truly international collaboration.

“Love Monster himself found love by venturing out into the wider world and I hope the TV version will, too.”
