Save the High Street unveils COVID-19 support programme

12-week initiative will aim to help local businesses struggling with the impact of coronavirus.

Save the High Street – which aims to support local retailers with tools, skills and digital capabilities – is launching a 12-week COVID-19 support programme.

The initiative is aimed at supporting those struggling with the impact of coronavirus, following the closure of all non-essential retail outlets last week.

A research project throughout March has gained input from dozens of high street business owners and experts to find out what they can do to succeed during this period, reported Fashion United.

Save the High Street will be working with select companies for 12 weeks to develop and implement personalised plans, as well as offering help in areas such as negotiating with landlords and suppliers, setting up and optimising ecommerce sites, applying for grants and loans, offering local delivery and hosting virtual events, as well as developing new forms of community engagement and digital marketing.

Fashion United reported that the organisation said approximately 500,000 outlets across 7,500 high streets should now be implementing plans to survive during the pandemic. However 50% are currently unprepared to achieve the transition plan on their own.

“Diverse, successful high streets benefit us all and to ensure that future, we will need an army of successful local independents,” commented Alex Schlagman, founding partner of Save the High Street.
