The Wombles give backing to Sustainability in Licensing Conference

Series of animated creative assets will appear in run up and during SILC which runs on November 24-25.

With just a week to go, the Sustainability in Licensing Conference has received the support of The Wombles.

The original eco-activists, who were brought out of hibernation earlier this year to spread their positive message of local environmentalism, have created a series of animations to help remind everyone joining the conference about the importance of sustainability and how we can all make a difference by working together.

The first of these animations will be a series of count-downs to the start of  the conference (which is running virtually on November 24-25), the first of which can be seen on Source (below) today (November 17).

In addition, The Wombles will be providing an opening message on each day of the conference, as well as announcing the breaks in the conference schedule.

The Wombles were relaunched in January 2020 – with a special appearance alongside the Prime Minister in the Houses of Parliament – and since then, the new-look characters have supported a wide range of environmental causes including Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean, The Woodland Trust, Meat Free Monday, Eco-Schools, National Tree Week and Remember A Charity.

In addition, the characters have also featured in a #WomblesWanted advertising campaign to encourage members of the public to adopt positive (Womble-style) behaviour, from recycling and adopting more environmentally-friendly forms of transport, to reusing and refurbishing old items rather than sending them to landfill.

The new-look brings a new contemporary feel to the characters without changing their classic look. The CGI gives each Womble – Orinoco, Great Uncle Bulgaria, Madame Cholet, Alderney, Tobermory, Wellington, Bungo and Tomsk – a full range of facial emotions and the ability to talk.

Speaking about the brand’s involvement with SILC 2020, Great Uncle Bulgaria told Source: “We want to remind the licensing industry that The Wombles are back. If you are looking for a partner with the ability to deliver a message about the importance of sustainability and local community, but with charm and wit, we would love to talk to you.

“We think it is wonderful that the licensing industry is embracing the importance of sustainability, so we couldn’t think of a more appropriate event to support.”

The Sustainability in Licensing Conference 2020 will be taking place digitally across November 24-25. For more details on how you can sign up to attend SILC 2020, simply click on this link.
