UK names shine in US LIMA Award shortlist

England Rugby, V&A, Fifty Shades, AC Worldwide, H&A among nominees for 2017.

A host of UK companies and brands have received nominations in this year’s LIMA 2017 International Licensing Awards.

The trade body said that it received a record number of submissions for the accolades (over 460) – which take place on Tuesday May 23 during Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.

Notably, a quarter of the nominees – 31 companies – originate from outside the US.

The UK is well represented across the various categories, both in terms of companies and brands.

The V&A is continuing a strong run in the Art & Design category, while Beanstalk’s Matthew Williamson programme is also given a nod.

Penguin Random House’s Peter Rabbit and The Gruffalo from Magic Light Pictures are among the nominees in the Character/Toy Brand category, while Transport for London‘s IP portfolio is recognised in Corporate Brand.

eOne’s Peppa Pig once again picks up a nomination in the Film/TV/Entertainment – Live Action category, while England Rugby is ready for the scrum in the Sports category.

The use of Hanna Barbara characters Top Cat and The Flintstones by the Halifax in its marketing campaigns has been recognised in the Licensing Promotion category, while Pyramid International has been nominated for its Star Wars ‘Welcome to the Darkside’ doormat in Home Décor.

And there’s more – Clark’s V&A footwear collection and Coco der Mer‘s Fifty Shades Darker lingerie are both named in Apparel/Footwear/Accessories, while AC Worldwide has picked up a nomination in Appliances/Automotive/Electronics/Hardware/Housewares/Paint for its hit Star Wars Bluetooth Speakers.

Finsbury Foods‘ Shopkins Cupcake Queen Cake has received a nod in Food/Beverage, while in Health & Beauty, H&A and Lovehoney are both in the running.

Finally, within Publishing/Social Expression/BTS, Blueprint Collections (Pusheen stationery and gift collection) and Paperchase (A-Z stationery and gifting) are both named.

Other big name brands nominated for the US awards include Barbie, Care Bears, DC Super Hero Girls, Mr Men Little Miss, Shopkins, Angry Birds, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Trolls, PAW Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Masha and the Bear, Coca-Cola, Krispy Kreme, Star Trek, KISS and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to name just a few.
