Ocado teams with Disney on new meal bundles and School of Magical Mealtimes

New research has marked the launch of Ocado’s new Disney-inspired meal bundles and School of Magical Mealtimes – a series of cookery classes, designed to bring families together in the kitchen and make mealtimes more magical.

A survey of 2,000 UK parents – commissioned by Ocado – revealed that although more than eight out of 10 (86%) parents believe cooking from scratch with their child can encourage healthier eating habits, half of parents surveyed (46%) say their child is involved in cooking just once a week or less – with one in ten (9%) not being involved in family cooking at all.

In addition, more than half of parents (54%) reveal their children don’t learn about the basics of cooking in the classroom, resulting in 89% believing food economics should be taught to all primary school children.

The research also highlighted a culinary skills gap; more than half (52%) say their children are able to master the basics such as peeling vegetables by the age of six – with two thirds (64%) able to make a sandwich by this age. However, more than 40% of parents surveyed (42%) say by the age of 11 their children still need help when it comes to following simple recipes and making meals from scratch.

The research has marked the launch of Ocado’s new Disney-inspired meal bundles and School of Magical Mealtimes – a series of family-friendly recipes and cookery classes designed to get children and families excited about cooking healthy meals together from scratch.

Launched by mum of three Giovanna Fletcher, the School of Magical Mealtimes opens from Monday 11 to Thursday 14 April in a central London location. The cookery classes offer budding chefs the chance to earn qualification, following a two-hour culinary experience.

In addition, Ocado has also launched a new range of Disney-inspired family friendly meal bundles. These take inspirations from the likes of 101 Dalmatians, Cars, Moana and The Lion King.

“My children love to immerse themselves in the world and stories of Disney characters, so these meal bundles are a really smart way of making mealtimes and cooking more magical for the family as a whole and introducing children to cooking from scratch – and healthy eating – from a younger age,” commented Giovanna.

Laura Harricks, chief customer officer at Ocado, continued: “There are clear benefits of cooking together with children, but it’s not always that easy – time is precious and it can be difficult to find the right recipe. That’s why we’re excited to be launching our Disney-inspired meal bundles, as well as the opening of our School of Magical Mealtimes this Easter.

“Created together with our expert nutritionist, the healthy and easy-to-make recipes have been inspired by some of Disney’s most-loved stories and characters. We hope these great-value meals will help to capture the imagination of families across the country, as they come together to make mealtimes more magical.”
