The Royal Mint marks ten years of The Snowman and The Snowdog

The Royal Mint has unveiled a collectable 50p coin to celebrate ten years since the release of The Snowman and The Snowdog.

The collectable coin celebrating the story of The Snowman and The Snowdog – which is the animated sequel to The Snowman – will see Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s portrait feature on the obverse (heads) side of the coin.

Following the popularity of The Snowman coin series, the 2022 design tells the story of a boy, Billy, who discovers a snowman-making kit hidden under his bedroom floorboards. Billy builds a snowman and, with a little leftover snow, a snowdog. That night, the two come to life and Billy joins them on an enchanting adventure.

The Royal Mint has introduced innovative digital colour printing technology to bring The Snowman and The Snowdog design to life, keeping true to the hand drawn, nostalgic quality of illustrator Robin Shaw’s original sketches.

“The Royal Mint first celebrated the heart-warming tale of The Snowman on official UK coins in 2018,” commented Rebecca Morgan, director of collector services at The Royal Mint. “We are delighted to introduce another collectable 50p coin to the series celebrating ten years since the release of The Snowman and The Snowdog. This year’s design is just as charming as ever and features an exclusive design by award-winning illustrator Robin Shaw.

“The Snowman and The Snowdog coin beautifully captures the festive magic of a tale that has become a much-loved classic. We hope collectors will love the design as much as we do at The Royal Mint with the coin making the ideal Christmas gift for loved ones.”

Thomas Merrrington, creative director at Penguin Ventures, continued: “It’s always really exciting to explore the next coin design with The Royal Mint and we are thrilled that this year we can celebrate ten years of friendship and fun with The Snowman and The Snowdog, captured perfectly by Robin Shaw for this very special coin release.”

This is the fifth commemorative coin from The World of The Snowman released by The Royal Mint in collaboration with Snowdog Enterprises and officially licensed by Penguin Ventures.
