Disney set to cross $2bn at the global box office

Disney is on track to cross $2 billion at the global box office, boosted by a strong early performance from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The Marvel Studios movie added an estimated $29.4 million at the worldwide box office on Monday, raising the running total to $318.7 million, reported Screen Daily.

US ticket sales reached an estimated $127.3 million, while the international arena generated an estimated $20.5 million to boost the tally to $191.4 million. China remained the lead territory on $31.4 million, followed by the UK on $20 million.

A key driver for Disney’s year to date box office though has been Avatar: The Way of Water – the movie opened in December 2022 but has grossed around $1.1 billion of its $2.3 billion global haul this year.
