British fashion pack team up for Star Wars initiative

Limited edition Star Wars inspired garments created and will then be sold for charity.

It seems that everyone in the fashion world is being inspired by Star Wars this season, with Lucasfilm unveiling a special British fashion initiative this week.

With the film due for release on December 17, 10 London-based designers have created original Star Wars: The Force Awakens inspired garments, which will be sold in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Charity on behalf of Star Wars: Force for Change.

The group of womenswear and menswear designers are Agi & Sam, Bobby Abley, Christopher Raeburn, Claire Barrow, JW Anderson, Nasir Mazhar, Peter Pilotto, Phoebe English, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi and Thomas Tait.

Each designer has created a limited edition unisex sweatshirt and t-shirt, featuring a unique print inspired by the motifs and mood of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The tops launched on November 21 at Selfridges stores nationwide and online, with all proceeds donated to GOSH Children’s Charity.

A special window was unveiled at the Selfridges Oxford Street, London store to mark the launch. It exclusively featured original pieces from Star Wars: The Force Awakens including the costume of Rey.

In addition, each designer has created two catwalk looks inspired by the film. These will be showcased at a Star Wars: Fashion Finds the Force presentation on November 26 in London, following which they will be available to fans by online auction at www.starwarsfashion.london with all proceeds donated.

Creative talent from the British beauty industry will also be lending their support. The presentation will feature make up looks by Max Factor global creative design director, Pat McGrath.

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm and producer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, said: “Star Wars has long had an association with British creativity and design, ever since the visionary and Oscar-winning work of English costume designer John Mollo on Star Wars: A New Hope.

“Star Wars: Fashion Finds the Force will give fans of the iconic Star Wars style a rare chance to see, and own for themselves, unique film-inspired designs from brands on the cutting edge of British fashion innovation.”
