Start Licensing feels the Spirit of Concorde

Agency will represent trademarks in run up to 50th anniversary of Concorde’s first flight.

Start Licensing has signed up to represent the Spirit of Concorde trademarks in the run up to the 50th anniversary of the aeroplane’s first flight.

The agency will be working closely with the film-makers behind the short film, Ode to Concorde, which has been created to mark the maiden flight.

The anniversary of Concorde’s maiden flight is March 2 2019, marking half a century since the French prototype took to the air in Toulouse.

The 50th of the first flight of the British prototype takes place a month later on April 9 2019.

Ode to Concorde will feature specially created footage and unique contributions from a large array of people connected with the famous aeroplane.

This includes designers, aviation pundits, engineers and test pilots, plus a contribution from former passenger, the late Sir Roger Moore.

The film will be screened at a range of events, festivals and venues.

The Spirit of Concorde trademarks will allow companies to tap into the expected high level of interest around the film and the anniversary.

Product categories that Spirit of Concorde is registered in include watches, art works, jewellery, statues, travelling bags, suitcases, clothing, beers, mineral waters, wine, cider and glassware.

“The Spirit of Concorde brand is a very commercial opportunity that allows licensees to mark the anniversary of Concorde’s first flight and to create products that will have long-term potential in relevant product sectors,” explained Ian Downes, md of Start Licensing.

“Categories like luggage are obvious ones to link to the legacy of Concorde, while categories like beer, cider and wine hold great potential. Companies can develop products that build on the heritage of Concorde and the fact that it was a state of the art form of travel.”

Ian continued: “We believe this is a focused opportunity that is relevant to newer areas of licensing and categories that seem to favour heritage, luxury and up-scale opportunities. We are looking forward to working with Spirit of Concorde.

“I vividly remembering watching Concorde fly over South London and, like many people, admired the beauty of the plane. The film and style guide that has been created are a powerful combination and early reaction to both has been very encouraging.”
