Licences play part as JoJo Maman Bébé bucks retail trend

Success of Elmer and Beatrix Potter lines contributes to rise in sales and revenues.

Maternity and babywear brand and retailer, JoJo Maman Bébé is defying the downwards trends seen across much of the UK high street by posting significant rises in its sales, revenues and pre-tax profits – with several big name licences playing their part in the success.

The company has been enjoying success with brands including Beatrix Potter – including Peter Rabbit – and Elmer, while it also stocks healthy ranges for Paddington and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

In addition, JoJo Maman Bébé has recently been confirmed as the new destination for The Snowman infant apparel.

Fronted by Laura Tennison – who spoke during April’s Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards about her journey building the brand – the retailer has posted a 20% rise in revenues to £57.5m, while pre-tax profits reached £3.9 million for the year to June 30, 2017.

Accounts filed at Companies House showed that same-store UK sales rose by 3.2% while there was also a 4.5% increase in like-for-like sales in the same period, sister title PreschoolNews.net reported.

The figures also showed that a greater number of shoppers are buying online, with internet sales now accounting for a third of the retailer’s revenues. Online sales were up 39.8% on last year, reaching £18.2 million.

The company is also making moves internationally. It now operates in 46 countries and will be opening its first US branches later this year.
