Rainbow Designs marks Very Hungry Caterpillar at 50

Tiny and Very Hungry Caterpillar collection launched with tea party at Toy Fair.

Rainbow Designs helped to kick off 50th anniversary celebrations for The Very Hungry Caterpillar at Toy Fair last week, hosting a themed tea party for the launch of its new collection.

Tiny and Very Hungry Caterpillar is based on the classic book and features a selection of nursery toys crafted specifically for newborn to 18 months.

Anniversary celebrations included The Very Hungry Caterpillar-themed goodie bags and cake, as well as a visit from the costume character. Joining in the celebration were The Very Hungry Caterpillar fans, The Piplets – four-year-old triplet boys who have recently starred as the young Prince James in the new Mary Queen of Scots Movie.

Rainbow Designs also launched its new ‘Made with Love’ The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which has been created from knit fabric and has embroidered detail to give a homespun feel.

“Many of us have grown up with The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” said Anthony Temple, md of Rainbow Designs. “This much-loved character has been part of our lives and our children’s lives for half a century and it is fantastic to be able to celebrate the longevity of this impressive brand.”

On May 6, the country will celebrate The Very Hungry Caterpillar Day, kicking off a week of ‘Giant Wiggle’ conga lines and fundraising activity in support of Action for Children and contributing to what is set to be a busy year of birthday activity and celebrations for the brand.

Charlie Donaldson, joint md of Rocket Licensing (pictured above with Anthony), added: “Rainbow Designs has been a fantastic and longstanding partner for this classic brand, and we are delighted by the launch of this special new range for The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s big 50th birthday.

“The charming Tiny and Very Hungry Caterpillar collection is the first of many new product ranges and partnerships to be announced in 2019.”
