ITV Studios adds Schitt’s Creek to portfolio

Canadian sitcom has received ‘overwhelming’ interest from international licensees.

ITV Studios Global Entertainment has added Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek to its portfolio and is due to showcase the property at next week’s Licensing Expo.

The show has a continuously building audience around the world and has enjoyed ‘overwhelming’ interest from international licensees. New licensed products will launch in the US from this summer.

The series follows a wealthy family who lose their fortune and are forced to relocate to a rundown motel in the small town of Schitt’s Creek. Season five began airing in January, with season six currently in production.

It airs on CBC in Canada and Pop in the US, as well as on Netflix in the US, UK, Eire, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Japan.

The first licensed products to launch include Rizzoli, with calendars for 2020; Hi-Line with the live tour merchandise; and a direct-to-consumer strand to the programme, with UGC fan art available through Redbubble and other online retailers.

Additional categories are currently under discussion, including softlines, gifting, home & bath and collectables, with designs reflecting the show’s signature humour and drawing on the smart and witty writing by using lines from key characters.
