Toy Story 4 heads to top of the box office and beyond

Film breaks record for biggest ever animation opening and is UK & Ireland’s number one.

The toys are most definitely back in town, with Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 4 opening as the UK and Ireland’s number one film, taking over £13.3 million in its opening weekend – and giving a considerable boost to the consumer products programme.

The result meant that the movie took the record for the biggest ever three-day opening weekend for an animation.

Walt Disney Studios’ holds both the number one and two spot at the UK and Ireland box office this weekend, with Aladdin still flying high after five weeks of release with a total to date of £32.1 million.

In celebration of Toy Story 4’s global number one, Disney UK has released a set of images shot by world renowned toy photographer Mitchell Wu, who used practical effects to achieve some standout shots of the beloved characters from the film.

The images feature Toy Story favourites Woody and Buzz Lightyear, along with new characters introduced in Toy Story 4 – Forky, Duke Caboom, Ducky and Bunny – plus the returning new look Bo Peep who is joined by new sidekick Officer Giggle McDimples.

“I’m a huge fan of the Toy Story movies and was delighted when I was asked to work on this project,” said Mitchell. “My aim was to create images that capture both the inherently fun and emotive core of the movie whilst showing off the personality of the key characters from Toy Story 4.”

Meanwhile, Thinkway Toys was given a boost on Friday night (June 21) when its new Woody toy was featured on The Graham Norton Show. Graham was showcasing the toy’s unique abilities to guest Tom Hanks, the voice of the character.
