Disney+ boosts May 4 line-up with The Rise of Skywalker

Final chapter in the Star Wars saga will begin streaming two months early in honour of ‘Star Wars Day’.

The final chapter in the Skywalker saga – Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – is to begin streaming two months early on Disney+ in honour of ‘Star Wars Day’ (May 4 to the uninitiated).

This means that, for the first time ever, fans will be able to stream the complete saga – all nine parts – in one place.

The movie will form a key part of the Disney+ celebrations for May 4 which includes the premiere of the eight-episode documentary series Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian and the series finale of animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The May 4 line-up follows the finale of the first season of The Mandalorian on Friday May 1 in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria and Switzerland.

In addition to the new content offerings, Disney+ will also mark the artistry of Star Wars with a week-long concept art takeover on the service.

Taking the form of a commemorative gallery, each film and series’ artwork will be updated on May 4 to feature its original concept paintings.

From Star Wars: A New Hope to The Mandalorian, the updated art will feature work from celebrated artists such as Ralph McQuarrie and Academy Award-winning artist, author and production designer, Doug Chiang.

On the Disney+ home screen, the animated ‘Star Wars’ brand tile, viewable on web and connected TV devices, will be upgraded with a new animation that honours the signature hyperspace jump.
