Beano unveils ‘blamtastic’ Lockdown Birthday power up kit

Brand teams with Save the Children on new initiative.

Beano and Save the Children have joined forces to make sure that children can still have fun birthdays in lockdown, launching a new ‘blamtastic’ Lockdown Birthday power up kit featuring some of the brand’s famous characters.

With birthday celebrations and parties being cancelled across the country due to the coronavirus lockdown measures, Dennis, Minnie and Bananaman are on hand to bring fun and games to thousands of children celebrating their birthdays at home.

The Lockdown Birthday Bash party kits are packed with everything needed for a Beano-themed party at home including a personalised Happy Birthday card and window poster from a Beano character of your choice, stickers and a set of Save the Children Beano postcards.

There will also be an exclusive link to a digital pack containing activities for the whole family including decorations, pranks, games and recipes. Save the Children and Beano will also keep adding content to the online hub.

On signing up for a Lockdown Birthday, there is an option to donate to Save the Children and all money raised from this will go towards helping children in the UK and 114 other countries keep safe, healthy and learning.

“An estimated 350,000 children in the UK are due to celebrate their birthday in May alone, and we are delighted and grateful to Beano that they will be able to have much-loved characters bringing their birthdays to life at home – even in a lockdown,” said Gemma Sherrington, executive director of fundraising and marketing at Save the Children.

Adults are also being encouraged to ‘donate’ their birthday through the Save the Children website and in return they will have access to a range of virtual birthday props and resources including WhatsApp birthday invites, novel backgrounds for virtual meetings and a sheet of silly Beano jokes.

Emma Scott, ceo at Beano Studios, added: “We have been working with Save the Children for a number of years and it’s really fantastic we have come together at what is a tough time for people across the country to provide some Beano party fun to those celebrating their birthdays, but also help to raise much-needed cash to support children to thrive during these challenging times.”
