New Star brand makes its Disney+ debut

New general entertainment brand will be home to TV series such as Family Guy, Lost and 24, plus movies and original content.

New general entertainment brand – Star – has made its debut on the Disney+ streaming service, joining the Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic brands.

Star has launched across Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand with over 75 TV series – including Family Guy, Lost, Grey’s Anatomy and 24 – more than 280 movies – including Independence Day and Die Hard 2 – and a slate of four exclusive Star Originals.

New titles will be added to the service each month from Disney’s creative studios including Disney Television Studios (20th Television and ABC Signature), FX Productions, 20th Century Studios and more.

“Disney+ has touched the lives of nearly a hundred million people around the globe by providing a home for exceptional storytelling from the beloved brands of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, and today’s launch of the Star-branded international general entertainment offering marks an exciting expansion for the service,” said Rebecca Campbell, chairman, international operations and direct to consumer, The Walt Disney Company.

“With the addition of Star, we’re building even more value for consumers by adding an incredible array of high-quality movies and series for families, older teens and adults, fuelled by the acquisition of 21st Century Fox and our creative studios.”

In addition, three new Originals have been confirmed elsewhere on Disney+ which will launch later in the year.

These are National Geographic’s hotly tipped eight-part limited series Genius: Aretha; Krista Vernoff’s Rebel, inspired by the life of Erin Brockovich; plus a spin off of black-ish, grown-ish.

It was also confirmed that Disney+ will be launching in Singapore.
