Design-led brand The Shed Inc eyeing licensing move

Design-led British brand, The Shed Inc is looking to make the move into licensing, having decided that the timing is right for the next chapter in its growth.

The brand – which was founded back in 2012 – has enjoyed a successful partnership with Not On the High Street for ten years with its gifting products, as well as selling through independent retail and TK Maxx. It has also created bespoke collections for P&O, Cunard and Britannia.

The Shed Inc initially dipped its toe into the licensing arena in 2019, securing its first licensing deal, only to be stopped in its tracks by the Covid-19 pandemic. However, founder Victoria Brook believes now is the right time to try again.

“Had it not have been for the pandemic we would have been looking to secure another deal by this point,” she explained to LicensingSource. “I feel that now retail and production have caught up with the pandemic disruption that we should capitalise on the previous momentum. We have confidence that our products and designs continue to be popular with our loyal NOTHS customer base and licensing enables us to offer more product categories than we could otherwise offer.”

Victoria is actively looking for a licensing agent and believes The Shed Inc brand would work in categories including homeware (ceramics and textiles), garden/picnic, bedding and soft furnishings, stationery and apparel.

“I don’t like to stand still and feel the timing is right for the next chapter,” Victoria continued, adding that she would love to have a few licensees signed and be ready to launch collections by the end of the year.

“The long-term aim is for the mix and match philosophy to be a reality and The Shed Inc label to have a become a household name where customers can buy products for multiple rooms in the house, as well as gift and garden,” she added: “I have a quiet dream that stores such as Selfridge’s would have The Shed Inc emporiums in their stores or something similar, or retail emporiums at airports were customers could buy gift and homeware as grab and goes before boarding, a little like Cath Kidston.”
