Adventure and fantasy comic series, Corto Maltese teams with GUESS

Adventure and fantasy comic series, Corto Maltese has teamed up with GUESS on a new menswear collection.

The deal was managed by Maurizio Distefano Licensing, the agency which oversees Corto Maltese’s Italian licensing programme.

Created by illustrator Hugo Pratt in 1967, Corto Maltese is a cult character, a star of graphic novels and paintings and a literary legend.

The capsule collection includes select pieces with drawings of Corto Maltese and his adventures, alongside other items that borrow style codes from the seafarer’s iconic wardrobe and maritime lifestyle.

High-tech outerwear includes full and half-zip designs, trench collars, maritime insignia and accents taken from the graphic novel series. There are also classic Breton stripes, cable knit and nautical motifs which enhance an array of comfortable layers with contemporary silhouettes, finished in a palette of muted mustard, ocean navy, salt white, lobster red, muted stone and horizon blue. There is also a cropped chino and jeans, plus a fisherman’s beanie in key colour options.

“We are thrilled that GUESS picked Corto Maltese as the star of its capsule collection,” commented Maurizio Distefano, president of MDL. “GUESS is one of the most famous fashion brands and Corto Maltese has become part of the culture in many parts of the world. We are sure that this amazing collection will delight everyone involved and be a big success with fashion lovers.”

Paul Marciano, chief creative officer at GUESS, continued: “Corto Maltese was chosen for this capsule because he reflects the alluring and adventurous spirit of GUESS. He is elegant, intriguing and cultured. I have always enjoyed Pratt’s beautiful watercolors, which are true works of art; it has been a pleasure to bring together Corto Maltese with GUESS.”
