Industry execs to tackle Fred Whitton Challenge

Sanrio’s Alastair McHarrie is cycling 112 miles on May 8 to raise funds for CALM.

This Sunday (May 8) will see Sanrio’s head of UK licensing, Alastair McHarrie take on the Fred Whitton Challenge.

The cycling sportive is 112 miles long and features over 12,000 feet of climbing.

It culminates with Hardknott Pass at mile 98, the steepest road in England which hits a 33% gradient in places. This is immediately followed by Wrynose Pass with a 25% gradient.

Alastair will be taking on the challenge with Andrew Carley, head of global licensing at eOne, Mark Nicolls, finance manager at Sanrio and Niall Trainor, lawyer at eOne.

Alastair is hoping to raise £1,000 for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a charity which he has supported over the years. CALM offers men support and information when they’re down or in crisis at www.thecalmzone.net. CALM exists to prevent suicide, the single biggest killer of men aged under 45 in the UK.

Alastair said of the sportive: “I thought it would a bit of a challenge when I entered the ballot, but when I got a place and then I went to the Lakes to ‘test’ the hills, I realised what I’d let myself in for.”
