Fake Pokémon among goods seized at Stansted

Counterfeit Harry Potter wands, Nike trainers and Beats headphones also seized at airport.

More than half a million pounds worth of fake goods have been seized at Stansted Airport over the past few weeks, including Pokémon toys, Nike trainers and Beats headphones.

Among the haul, Border Force officers at the Essex airport have seized 3,126 fake Pokémon, Nintendo and Minecraft plush toys from China valued at £62,000.

In addition, 100 fake Harry Potter wands from China valued at £3,000 have been picked up, as well as 900 Burberry scarves (valued at more than £200,000).

Other recent seizures at the airport include 80 pairs of fake Nike trainers from Hong Kong (more than £11,000), 750 Beats headphones from Hong Kong (more than £185,000) and 750 Beats Pill portable speakers from Hong Kong (£140,000), according to Cambridge News.

Taylor Wilson, Border Force assistant director at Stansted Airport, commented: “Counterfeiters know what the ‘must have’ toys are and, as these seizures at Stansted demonstrate, are content to spoil a child’s Christmas with inferior fakes if it represents an opportunity for them to cash in.

“Those involved in counterfeiting look to capitalise wherever there is demand for a product whether that is a toy, a fashion item or electrical goods.

“They have no interest in ensuring their products meet safety standards and we would urge consumers to be careful with their purchases.”
