Authentic Hendrix brand grows into luxury apparel

LA-based fashion label Libertine readies new line inspired by Hendrix’s legendary style.

LA-based fashion label Libertine is teaming with Authentic Hendrix on the launch of a range of luxury apparel inspired by the rock guitarist’s legendary style.

The partnership will see the creation of men’s and women’s apparel, mixing the style of Jimi Hendrix with the interpretation and design of Libertine’s founder, Johnson Hartig.

The deal was secured by Epic Rights and Perryscope Productions, the exclusive retail branding partners for Authentic Hendrix.

The collection is due to debut in spring 2019 and will be supported by a special event and marketing initiatives.

An event has already been held to kick-start the new collaboration – and to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jimi’s seminal album, Electric Ladyland – with a limited edition, unisex Jimi Hendrix shirt having been unveiled.

The shirt has been inspired by the photo that Jimi originally wanted for the album’s cover: a photo of the band posing with children, taken by Linda Eastman who would later marry Paul McCartney. The shirt will be available for a limited time exclusively at Fred Segal.

“Jimi’s style was part of his persona. Although it was deliberate and not accidental, he didn’t even have to try to be spectacular. He just was,” explained Janie Hendrix, ceo and president of Experience Hendrix and Authentic Hendrix. “Johnson Hartig’s fashion sense mirrors Jimi’s flair and that’s no accident either.

“His designs are colorful, bold and electrifying. That’s the spirit of Jimi and it makes the Libertine line that we’ll launch at Fred Segal a perfect fit for the Jimi Hendrix luxury capsule collection.”
