New British sticker company eyeing licences

Mardles’ collection uses augmented reality technology to bring stickers to life.

A British company which has created a new line of stickers using augmented reality technology to bring them to life, is now looking to speak to licensing companies to expand its business further.

Mardles is a collection of stickers that when viewed through a smartphone or tablet come to life as 3D animations, complete with sound effects and movement control.

The range is currently on sale at Amazon, Argos and via TV shopping channel QVC. The £4.99 packs of 12 stickers feature a raft of different characters, from dinosaurs to rockets, racing cars to unicorns.

The company was created by mum of one Sharon Wyness and her friend James Murden, and since a soft launch late in 2015, Mardles has already notched up sales of over 100,000 packs. Esdevium is acting as its UK distributor.

The duo are now hoping to talk to licensing companies about the range, with a view to incorporating the technology into licensed lines.

“We are looking to have conversations with licensors,” James told The Source at Toy Fair. “Plus there is also the possibility of licensing out the characters we have created.”

Mardles is currently exhibiting at Toy Fair as part of Esdevium’s stand (E109).
