The Licensing Awards 2019: The Property winners

We highlight eight winners, while Incredibles 2 with Plenty wins Best Licensed Promotions Campaign.

The Property categories at The Licensing Awards were hotly contested, with some high profile brands nominated across preschool, children’s, adult, film, celebrity, sports and classic.

First to take to the stage was eOne, with Peppa Pig winning Best Preschool Licensed Property (sponsored by Character World). “This is the one we’ve been waiting for,” enthused Katie Rollings, svp UK licensing at eOne. “All the hard work has paid off and I’m over the moon.”

Harry Potter was victorious in the Best Children’s or Tween Licensed Property (5-12) (sponsored by Misirli). Nick Stratton, senior licensing manager, WBCP, told Source: “It is such a great brand and we are privileged and honoured to work on it.”

Best Teen or Adult Licensed Property (12+) (sponsored by Global Brands Group) was awarded to emoji, with Alex Mitchell, senior licensing and partnership manager at Bravado, saying: “For the brand to line up alongside the others in that category, and win, is testament to its success.”

Fortnite ran out the winner in the Best Gaming Licensing Property category (sponsored by Funko), with Matthew Primack, svp of IMG (the brand’s licensing agent) collecting the accolade.

Meanwhile, Toy Story 4 beat some stiff competition to be crowned Best Film Licensed Property (sponsored by Pyramid International). Claire Terry, general manager UK and Ireland, The Walt Disney Company, told Source: “This feels fantastic and we’re glad that Toy Story 4 brought some magic to the licensing and toy industry this summer.”

Bravado was back on the stage to collect the accolade for Best Music or Celebrity Licensed Property (sponsored by Danilo), with The Rolling Stones being crowned. “The Rolling Stones are the biggest rock and roll band in the world and it’s great to work with them – and long may it continue,” said David Boyne, md of Bravado.

After a strong summer on the pitch, England Football and Lionesses scored a victory in the Best Sports Licensed Property category (sponsored by TSBA Formula E).

A delighted Nicky Stanton, senior commercial manager at The FA, said: “This is amazing. It feels like we have delivered a licensing programme which has done our girls proud.”

On to Best Classic Licensed Property (sponsored by GB eye) and, after marking its milestone 40 year anniversary, The Snowman was named the winner. Susan Bolsover, licensing and consumer products director at Penguin Ventures, commented: “For a seasonal brand to win this Classic award… it’s amazing… and for a brand which is 40 years old, too.”

Meanwhile, Disney’s Claire Terry was back on stage to collect Best Licensing Promotions Campaign (sponsored by Brand Licensing Europe 2019) for the Incredibles 2 Campaign with Plenty (agency: Blue Chip Marketing).

Claire said: “It’s an amazing partnership… strong brand, strong product… everything is Incredible about it.”
