National Calendar Awards winners revealed

Danilo, Carousel Calendars and Flame Tree among those feted.

Ladybird Books For Grown-Ups, The Beano, The Flying Scotsman, Harry Potter and Star Trek were some of the licensed properties to be recognised in the National Calendar Awards (NCA).

Radio presenter, Nick Ferrari hosted the awards event, which took place in London’s Stationer’s Hall and was attended by calendar publishers, suppliers and licensors.

It was a night of multi-celebrations for Danilo Promotions as the publisher won five awards in total, including the Excellence in Production award for its Ladybird Books for Grown-ups title.

As Dan Grant, licensing director of Danilo (pictured with Penguin’s Susan Bolsover) commented: “It is great that a new take on a classic property was recognised in these awards, reflecting the evolution of licensing where old and new can co-exist happily.”

The winners of the retail categories were:

Free-standing Format – Desk Top Calendar from Busy B
Slimline Format – Matt Sewell’s British Birds from Carousel Calendars
Illustrated, Desk and Pocket Diaries – Marvel Comics Diary from Danilo Promotions
Animals – Thierry Bisch; A Bestiary from Pomegranate
Scenic/Landscape – Cornwall Calendar from Emma Ball
Humour/Characters – Beano Official Calendar from Danilo Promotions
Media/Glamour/Celebrities – Vintage Burlesque from Flame Tree Publishing
Classical & Contemporary Art – Angie Lewin from Flame Tree Publishing
Transport – The Flying Scotsman from Carousel Calendars

Some 16 million calendars were bought in the UK in the last year – one for every family.
