News extra: More licensing news from this week

Including Brand Licensing Europe and Licensing International launching a new Brand Licensing Retailers’ Academy.

Source rounds up more news from the licensing industry across the globe from the week.

Brand Licensing Europe and Licensing International are launching a new Brand Licensing Retailers’ Academy, a series of six masterclasses specifically designed for experienced retail professionals. The year-round programme will feature leading licensing executives sharing their expertise including how licensing drives enhanced customer engagement, key consumer insights behind licensed product purchase intent and exclusive access to the data behind emerging industry trends. The series will kick off with an in-person half day event in central London on 12 May. Interested retailers can register by clicking here.

SEGA Europe has teamed up with UK lifestyle brand Hype on a new line of clothing and accessories celebrating Sonic the Hedgehog. The capsule collection consists of 30 pieces for adults and children, featuring the traditional Sonic colour palette with a monochrome theme and neon accents. Items include hoodies, joggers, t-shirts and leggings, as well as a uniquely designed bowling shirt featuring a print in a monochrome theme with a contrasting collar. Accessories include a backpack and two pencil cases.

Thermos UK has secured an exclusive three-year licensing deal with children’s stationery and greeting cards designer, Rachel Ellen, to create a unique FUNtainer range of bottles, food flasks and lunch bags. The brand will initially launch four themed children’s collections featuring illustrations that are recognisable as Rachel’s creations.

Ricochet, the producer of The Repair Shop, has partnered with The Point.1888 to explore potential licensing possibilities. An important goal in the licensing strategy will be that every new product for The Repair Shop – which sees a team of skilled craftspeople rescue and resurrect objects their owner’s thought were beyond saving – has a purpose, adding value to the consumer’s life in some way.

Acamar Films is continuing to build its UK licensing programme for Bing, with latest licensee Star Cutouts launching a new range of cardboard cut outs for the preschool hit. The collection includes four character Star-Minis, ahead of expanding into lifesize cut-outs, table toppers and masks. In addition, Acamar is also celebrating a raft of recent UK renewals with existing partners. These include Roy Lowe & Sons, Paper Projects and Moonpig.
