Pokémon Go arrives in the UK

The most talked about franchise of the week now available for UK gamers.

It has been the subject of intense press coverage over the past week – perhaps only second to the new Prime Minister and the ensuing Cabinet reshuffle – and now Pokémon Go has finally been released in the UK.

The app has been available in the US, Australia and Germany, however some keen UK gamers had discovered ways around the country registration to get early access.

The game allows players to roam a map using their phone’s GPS location data, catching Pokémon along the way. Landmarks and buildings are dubbed Pokestops, where players can collect free items in the game.

Those Pokémon caught can then be used to battle against other players at Pokémon gyms, which are also real world locations.

The Source reported on Monday how the success of Pokémon Go had added almost £6 billion to Nintendo’s market value in just two days.

The Pokémon franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, with the success of the app only set to underline the milestone further.
