News extra: More licensing news from this week

Including Penguin Ventures and The Royal Mint teaming for a new Peter Rabbit 50p coin.

The Source rounds up more news from the licensing industry across the globe from the week.

Penguin Ventures and The Royal Mint have teamed once again for the release of a new Peter Rabbit coin to join the existing Beatrix Potter collection. The deal was brokered by Silvergate Media, the global licensing agent for Peter Rabbit. The new design for 2019 will feature on Brilliant Uncirculated, Silver Proof and Gold Proof 50p commemorative coins.

Design-led gifting company Wild & Wolf has secured a new partnership with Draper James, the Southern-inspired lifestyle brand from Reese Witherspoon. The company has created products across a broad range of categories including stationery, lunchware, drinkware, travel accessories and gardening products among others.

Following the success of the London Underground Lightbox – which launched last year – the product has been crowned Best Licensed Product at the Association for Cultural Enterprises Conference in Brighton. The product was first introduced at the London Transport Museum in July 2018 and is now one of the bestselling lifestyle products in its store. In total, more than 12,000 units have been sold since the product was launched, at least 3,000 by the London Transport Museum alone. The TfL licensing programme is handled by TSBA Group.

Zimpli Kids has teamed with the emoji brand to launch a range of ‘bafftime’ product. The new range – which was showcased at London Toy Fair back in January – includes Gelli Play Pods, emoji Gelli Baff Pods, Poop Baff Bombz and emoji Slime Play Foil Bags.

The Outdoor Playtime Awards are back for 2019, with organiser Toyology having secured a media partnership with DC Thomson. Every toy entered will be put through its paces at a dedicated event by over 50 ‘Toyminators’ aged 5-14 in a special outdoor play space. The event is also working alongside Kidzcoolit, where regular updates on award entries will be posted in the approach to awards day. To find out more – and to enter – simply click on this link.

The first Moomin theme park outside of Finland is now officially open. The Moominvalley Park in Hanno, Japan opened on March 16 and is already proving a hit with fans.
